Pink’s Concrete Design got a call from a client that just purchase a new home in Stamford Connecticut. The owner of the property wanted to get rid of the old red tile entry way.
What Pink’s did
Taking up the tile could cause multiple issues including lead, and asbestos. The best solution was to encapsulate the old tile, then do a polished concrete natural look overlay with a high gloss finish. Since the tile was to the main entrance, Pink’s decided to use the perfect membrane. This product consists of using the Perfect primer, which is environmentally friendly, and water based. To ensure there was no cracking the concrete primer was embedded with a poly membrane, then another coat of perfect primer. The material is easily applied with a 3/8th inch nap roller and dries within 24 hours, It will bond to any clean substrate, VCT,Ceramic, Wood, metal ,and concrete.

Mapei Ultratop was then used as a concrete self-levelling overlay, giving a natural concrete flooring look. The final procedure was to seal the coating. Pink’s used two coats of solvent based acrylic sealer, and 3 coats of 30 percent solid epoxy wax. The final product was a polished concrete floor look with diamond grinding or removing the existing tile.
